Negombo Beach
Historically used by local fishing communities for centuries, Negombo's coastline began developing into the country's first beach resort destination in the 1970s. The wide stretch of golden sand is distinct for its warm, shallow waters and the backdrop of traditional outrigger canoes (Oruwa) resting on the shore. Today, it is the most convenient beach escape for travelers landing in Sri Lanka. It is lined with a mix of luxury hotels and lively pubs. Tourists use it for sunbathing, catamaran rides, and witnessing some of the most spectacular sunsets on the west coast.
